I love simple, at-home sessions.  This amazing duo was no exception.  They recently moved, and their new house came with a FANTASTIC swing set, perfect for fun in this bizarre world of isolation.  It was clear that this little guy was pretty enamored of it, so that’s where I focused for my portraits of him (Number one rule — happy kids equal better portraits!).  He was super excited to show off all the cool things he’s learned to do, and his secret treasure (spoiler alert — it was a branch from a nearby tree he’s been keeping at the top of the slide in the treehouse portion of the swing set 🙂 ).   It was also a great way to help him transition to doing portraits with his mom — she came and pushed him on the swing for a little while which not only yielded sweet images of the two of them, but got him excited for more pictures with his mom elsewhere in their yard.  That is one of the beautiful things about portrait sessions at home — kids get to be on their own turf, and I think it really comes out in how extra-comfortable they are during the session.   If your own home or backyard isn’t appealing, I often get that same effect when we go to a favorite playground or park — I can have the kids show me around and let me know what the most fun things are, and it gives them a real sense of confidence.

Here are a few of my favorites from our time together:
