First Birthday Milestone Portrait Session | Medford, MA

It was such a pleasure to get to see Anna, Ian, and Charlie again for Charlie’s first birthday milestone portrait session.  It’s hard to believe it’s been a little more than a year since I photographed Anna & Ian’s maternity portraits, and a little less than a year since I photographed newborn Charlie.

One of the things the three of them love to do together is to hike, so we headed to one of their favorite spots in the Fells for Charlie’s portrait session.  The weather for Anna  and Ian’s maternity session was foggy — it leant a lovely ethereal sense to their portraits, and is not weather I often get to shoot in.  Luckily for them, the day of Charlie’s first birthday milestone portrait session was *also* foggy and lovely, which was a real treat.

It was such a joy to get to see how Charlie has grown, and how Anna and Ian have settled into being parents this past year.  Here are some of my favorites from our time together — they included some very special items such as a sweater handknit for Ian by his aunt when he was a baby, and a stuffed animal that belonged to Anna’s late father — it was wonderful to get to see how they are weaving their families’ stories into Charlie’s life.

I was honored to be able to capture H’s birthday party for the third year in a row this past weekend!  This year she chose to have her party at Beadles Bead Shop & Boutique  in Chelmsford Center.  What a fantastic little shop it was — so many amazingly gorgeous beads I had to be careful not to get too distracted 🙂 I was super impressed with how they ran the party, with little kits for a necklace and bracelet ready to go in a rainbow of colors (and even some kits that were the whole rainbow all together!).   H and her friends seemed to have a great time threading their beads, and trading for ones they wanted.  And H’s mom made a stunningly gorgeous cake, as always!  Here’s a little peek at their celebration:

It’s hard to believe it’s been six months since I saw baby J and his mom.  This week J turned one, and we had a lovely portrait session in the Fells to mark the occasion.  It was especially nice to have J’s dad at this session, since he had been called away on a business trip unexpectedly and had to miss our last session.  Loved seeing these guys interact with their little one.  Some favorites:

What a treat to get to celebrate H. again this year — such a big girl now at six!   This year was a penguin theme, and apparently someone sent a message to the weather about it, because it was a chilly 17 degrees when I arrived.  The kids had a great time playing inside with cardboard “igloo” blocks, pin-the-nose-on-the-penguin, “feed the penguin” bean bag toss, and more.

What a delightful way to ease back into work — a birthday celebration of a wonderful lady!  C turned 80, and had a celebration with her whole extended family to mark the occasion.  It was truly a family affair with the party taking place at the family’s restaurant in Branford, CT.  Old and young alike had a great time, and I’m pleased to get to share some highlights of the day with you!

What a fun afternoon celebrating with G, A, and their family and friends at the Gibbs Gym in Arlington!  Highlights of the party included playing with all the cozy coupe cars, balls galore, and more, and then sitting down for some delicious cake.  The birthday boys were particularly enthralled with the cake and enjoyed it to the fullest!   Here are some of my favorite shots from the party, including big sister L helping to hand out plates for cake.

Hannah turned 5 yesterday, and I had the privilege of photographing her birthday party this afternoon.  Hannah’s mom, Shari, is an amazing party planner — everything was in theme (outer space!), from the snack names (rock candy was transformed into meteorites, veggies & dip became comet tails and moon sand, there was “galaxy cereal” and, of course, astronaut ice cream!).  The sparkly decorations around the edges of the living room were stars, there was “pin the fire on the rocket” and a space-themed photo booth where kids could pick between an astronaut mask or a rocket ship.  Everything was impeccably done!  Most of all, though, I enjoyed getting to witness the joy of the birthday girl and her friends as they celebrated what feels like a big milestone — 5 is half a decade, and it feels huge to kids that age!   Here is a quick peek from the afternoon — Hannah getting ready to blow out her birthday candles (on her rocket-shaped cake, of course!)

It’s not often that a four year old asks for a raccoon-themed birthday party.  This particular four year old was quite attached to the idea, and her mother cleverly morphed it into a “woodland creatures” theme, and made the most adorable decorations and themed-foods to go along with it!  There was “pin the tail on the raccoon,” make-your-own trail mix, and a hedgehog cheese ball.

Here are a few of my favorites!
