Capture the Perfect Spring Photos!

Start your Spring off right with these photo tips

With all the snow storms hitting Boston, it may not feel like it. But spring is just around the corner! March 20th marks the first official day and I couldn’t be more excited. Don’t get me wrong, I do love snow-filled photo shoots. But I’m completely ready for spring backdrops and warm weather to be here.

To get you excited for warmer weather, I am sharing 5 fun tips on how you can capture the perfect spring photos this year. Try one or all five –

  • Kids jumping in puddles. Splashing in puddles is not only fun for your little ones, but it makes for a great photo op! The look of pure joy on their faces will make the mess worth it! Imagine your little one running around in a rain jacket and umbrella. We can, of course, save these photos for last!
  • Babies in a field of flowers – Newborns, toddlers, teenagers and adults for that matter! One of my favorite parts of spring are the new blooms the warm weather brings. Flowers make a stunning backdrop and whether you’re sitting in a field or walking through, the candids are sure to be amazing.
  • Pop of color or accessories – Break out that favorite spring dress or colorful outfit. Yellows, bright blues, oranges and pinks will instantly put a smile on your face for your photo shoot. OR add a flower crown for a fun addition.
  • Picnic in the green grass – What better way to celebrate spring that in a field of lush green grass? It’s a simplistic, yet beautiful backdrop.
  • Balloons – Whether your backdrop is water, a brick wall or a field of flowers, colorful balloons always make for a cute prop! The color contrast is perfect if you plan on sending out printed cards!

PLUS, I am excited to announce that I am now booking spring mini-sessions  on May 5th that will benefit the Peirce Elementary School PTO! Reserve your preferred time here!

{Specials} Snow Day Portraits this Winter!

Let it snow!  As I write this, the season’s first real snow fall is taking place outside my window.  I don’t know about you, but I *love* snow.  I like building snowmen, I like snowshoeing, and I even like shoveling (ok, I realize that last bit is a bit weird — but it’s good exercise and such a nice way to hang out with neighbors!).   One of the things I love most about the snow though is that it has a certain magical quality — sparkling as it falls from the sky, its effect on sound, and of course, its reflective qualities (I’m a photographer — I like light!).   Snow can be elegant; snow can really showcase some of the great joy in our lives.   So I’m going to be offering Snow Day Portraits this winter — perfect for almost any type of session you might have in mind, but because of the nature of the weather (and that we want beautiful pristine snow) scheduled by necessity at the last minute.

How will it work?

Step 1:  Sign up for the wait list by sending me an email here (link).

Step 2: When there’s snow in the forecast, I’ll email the waitlist to see who might be interested in a portrait session.  The location of the session will depend on the amount of snow we get.  As a default, sessions will take place at the Arlington Reservoir, where there is stunning scenery all year round, but especially beautiful in the snow.  Road conditions permitting, I may be able to travel to you.

Step 3:  In order to claim the snow day slot, you’ll need to complete a portrait session contract (link).   As a snow day special, your entire session fee will be applied to your purchase of any print or digital products you choose at your viewing & ordering session.  You may view complete product pricing in the Welcome Guide (link).

Step 4: We’ll have a great time in the snow, and get some gorgeous portraits you can enjoy for years to come!

{Special Event} First Lights in Arlington Center | Family Portrait Opportunity

This time of year is dark.  A friend recently commented to me at 5:30pm “It feels like midnight!”  So let’s bring some light in.  Join me this Thursday, December 1 for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce’s First Lights event in Whittemore Park (in front of the Jefferson Cutter House)  starting at 6pm.  The event will be co-hosted by the Chamber and the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum. The event will include the lighting of the trees, family portraits (by yours truly) with the lights, musical entertainment, activities at the museum, a live ice sculpture demonstration and community sing-a-long!  There will also be collection boxes for the Arlington Food Pantry and Toys for Tots will be placed in the Jefferson Cutter Gallery.

Even with tonight’s rain, the lights added some joy to the evening, for sure, and there will be even more on Thursday!  I’ll be taking family portraits at special event rates (link) — perfect for your holiday card!
