It’s Friday evening.  Everyone is tired from hybrid school and work.  The LAST thing most people want is to bring their children out for portraits.  These folks were so enthusiastic and joyful to work with, and with a child-led session, we made it so much fun.   What does it mean to have a child-led or child-friendly photo session? Well, for one, it means we are definitely not spending the entire hour-long session getting into precise poses and saying “cheese” at the camera.  Instead, we play games.  Games, you ask?  But what about the fact that the grandparents REALLY want a photo of everyone looking and smiling at the camera?  Never fear.  We will totally get some of those “standard” shots for Grandma and Grandpa, but the way we get there may look a little different than what you’re used to.  Instead of me placing everyone in a spot and running back to MY spot and saying “Ok, smile!” I’ll get everyone mostly set up and then give a prompt for an action to do together.  This looks a little different with each family and totally depends on the personalities and ages of the kids involved.  For this family, the kids were super active, but also had a large age spread, so I worked to come up with games and actions that ALL of them could participate in.  These kiddos had some BIG personality going on, so when they had ideas for what they wanted to do, I also ran with it — my motto is that happy kids = great portraits, and so I let them make each thing we did their own.  Here are some of my favorites from our time together — If you’d like to schedule your own child-led portrait session, drop me a line and we’ll get you on the calendar!
