Child-Led Family Photography | Lexington, MA

It’s one of the most frequent messages I get:

“I’d love to schedule family photos, but my kids never cooperate. How do you work with young children?”

I absolutely love working with kids, and a large part of that is that I understand that kids are, well, KIDS.  They have limited attention span, and for the most part, don’t really value the photos we create together while we create them (I believe strongly that they will come to value them over time, when they’re older, but realistically, how many first graders actually care about doing family photos?  Hardly any).  So, in order to create those images that will bring them back to a time and place, a time of love and happiness, it’s my job to create an environment where they can truly have fun and have a good experience while we create those images.  We do very little of the “stand here, pose here” stuff, and a lot of games and fun — jokes, ACTIVE play, and do my best to make it so fun they forget I’m there with my camera.  I want to capture who they really are at this stage in all their silliness and goofiness, and sweetness.  Here are a few of my favorites from my time with these folks this past weekend:
