Even in the corporate world, headshots with a studio backdrop are fast fading. For a more modern corporate headshot look, I love being outdoors — we can still create together images that you will be comfortable using in a formal, corporate setting, but they will feel fresh and modern. When we get to move around, I also often find clients are more comfortable — having a chance to relax into the process, even in a short headshot session. We can still achieve a near-solid backdrop if that’s something you need — whether it’s a cluster of trees or a stone building, we can get creative. As we move through the environment, we can also play with different lighting — some portraits lit very naturally, some like we brought studio lighting with us.
As Kathy mentioned during this session, with everything being remote these days, a good headshot is more important than ever — when video isn’t possible, this is the way that colleagues, clients, and prospective clients will see you. So it’s more important than ever that you have a portrait you really feel confident in. Almost all of the adults I photograph (if I added it up, I would bet it’s above 95%) tell me — either in their initial inquiry, or during their session, that they “aren’t photogenic” or “hate having [their] photo taken” — with how important images are in our new remote world, it’s more important than ever to develop trust with your photographer — the experience being a positive one goes a long way towards producing a final image that you are happy with. The more relaxed you can be (I *know* that is a tall order — I’m pretty uncomfortable being in front of the camera myself, so I understand!) the better.
Here are a few of my favorites from Kathy’s session:
