We have two teenage boys so they will comply but they will be reluctant!

This was what this mom said in her initial inquiry.  Honestly?  I often find teens are harder to photograph than toddlers, because they are WAY cooler than I am and they know it 😉  These boys were a true delight to work with, and if they were reluctant, they certainly didn’t show me (much 😉 ).   With teens, I like to get them moving — it’s such a self-conscious time of life, and the less they can be focusing on me, the better the images will come out.  I have a bunch of games/prompts I use with families with older kids (these teens were kind enough to play along!) but just like with younger kids, I find it’s really helpful to follow the teens’ lead — giving them a say in how they’re photographed goes a long way towards helping them feel comfortable in front of the camera.  These boys were totally game to not only try my prompts, but to add some suggestions of their own.  Mom and Dad got in on it too, and it was such a pleasure to get a little glimpse into who they really are as a family.  Their oldest is a senior this year, and I’m sure they’ll stay close, but things change when a child moves out, and I was so glad to get to capture this magic for them before this big change happens and he’s done with high school.

Here are a few of my favorites from our time together — I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them!
