Last year I met Sara and Gordon and their amazing daughters at younger daughter Plia’s newborn session. This year, I got to meet them for some fun and relaxed family portraits in Medford, MA. We met up on the Tufts campus, where Sara went to school, and enjoyed the beautiful views and scenery. Big sister Anina was a huge help again, just as she was last year — always thinking about what might make her little sister happy (it’s always helpful as a photographer to get the inside scoop on a young toddler’s preferences, and who better to advise than the toddler’s older sister? 🙂 ). She also had some fantastic ideas for herself — requesting a “balance beam” shot, as well as a shot with the Boston skyline. I love when kids have ideas, and it’s always fun to run with them and figure out how to turn them into portraits their parents will love.
My very favorite moment of the whole session was definitely when Anina spent some time helping Plia, who doesn’t walk on her own yet, to take a few steps. It was just one of a dozen or more moments from this session though, which was goofy and fun and followed the lead of the kids (because with young children, that really does work best — we’ll get the best smiles, and the most real moments if we follow their lead as much as possible). We even took a brief moment when the kids needed a break to grab a couple of shots of Sara and Gordon together just on their own — something most parents don’t take as much time for as they’d like 🙂
Here are a few of my favorites from our time together — and I’m looking forward to seeing them again next summer for another update. I love getting to visit with my clients each year!
