The theme of this week is clearly teens 😉  This past week I had the enormous privilege to be the official photographer for The Newman School’s fall school picture day.  Newman is a middle and high school located in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, and I was so excited to be back there after the marketing images I took for them a couple of years ago.

We had absolutely stunningly gorgeous early fall weather the day I was scheduled to go to Newman.  We were able to set up outdoors, right on Marlborough Street, at the entrance to the school.  A lot of times, teens are a little sullen or drag their feet a bit about going to school, but these kids were clearly SO excited to be there.  From the smallest 7th grader to the 12th graders about to launch, they were delightful to work with.

School photos can feel a bit like an assembly line, but even with 150 students and staff to photograph in a finite amount of time, I still tried to take a minute with each kid to try to connect.  At a time in their lives where they are really finding their footing and grounding, I wanted their own personalities to shine through.  As a mom who frequently gets school photos from my own kids’ school with cheeks puffed out or eyes rolling, I wanted each of the parents of these kids to have a portrait of their child they could hang on the wall, or share with the grandparents and be able to say “yes, THAT’S my child!”

Here are a small fraction of my favorites — it was hard to narrow it down even this much!
