In this pandemic school year, many schools are choosing not to do the traditional school portraits that families have become accustomed to.  “I thought of you and your work when I saw that school photos were canceled….” writes one mother, whose daughter is graduating 8th grade this year (at a school that is preschool-8th, so graduation can mean quite a long time in one school for some of these kids!).  When I asked if there were locations they had in mind, they suggested going to the school grounds — a chance to preserve some memories before her final year at the school is through.  What will be significant when this child is grown and looks back on this year and this school experience?  With the school sign in the foreground, I couldn’t help but include the #BlackLivesMatter sign in the background given a school that focuses so much on their anti-bias curriculum.   The newly-painted hard top space was also a fun spot to sit for a minute and think about how much we’ve all adapted this year to make old things work anew, and a doorway to the school — standing just outside on the brink of a new high school adventure!

Here are a few of my favorites from our time together, and if you, too are in need of a school picture substitute because your school isn’t providing them this year, please don’t hesitate to reach out — I’d be happy to help!
