We had an unexpectedly gorgeous (the forecast had me thinking we’d be dodging rain drops) fall morning for baby B’s first birthday portraits the other day.  The foliage was fine form, and the temperature unseasonably warm.  B wasn’t so sure what she thought of me and my giant lens (the better to keep safe social distance, since while I had my mask on the entire time, my clients, of course, did not — you can read more about how I’m dealing with Covid here), but she warmed up some as the session went on, and I loved the little glimpses of her personality I got to see.  She was most excited about her sweet little sheep stuffy (Sheepy and I played peek-a-boo for a while, which B loved) and, of course there is that other great toddler favorite — gravel on the path 😉 ).   My sessions are very child-led in their focus, so the entire time we were together, we took B’s lead.  Pushing an agenda on a toddler who has just turned one (she celebrated her birthday just a few days before our session) is always a recipe for disaster, but by following her lead, I was able to earn some trust from her and get much better images than I otherwise would have for her parents while making it a better experience for everyone at the same time.  Here are a few of my favorites from our time together:
